The children’s choir Les petits chanteurs de Saint-Charles was founded in 1983 by Father Roger Morandi SM. The mission of Les petits chanteurs de Saint-Charles is to sing to the Lord and his wonders and to radiate faith and Christian joy. Our young singers receive both a musical and a spiritual education since, without a living faith, sacred music is reduced to a purely artistic gesture and loses its meaning.
Our choir belongs to the French Federation Pueri Cantores (120 choirs, about 4500 singers) and thereby to the International Federation Pueri Cantores, comprising children’s choirs whose purpose is to praise God with sacred music. Together with other young singers of the world, Les petits chanteurs de Saint-Charles sing the peace of God so that, on the Earth, all men of good will live in peace.

Les petits chanteurs de Saint-Charles perform Renaissance motets and the masters of sacred classical music such as W.A.Mozart (Requiem, Kronungsmesse, Missa Brevis), M.A.Charpentier (Midnight Mass For Christmas, Missa Assumpta est Maria), A.Vivaldi (Gloria), J.S.Bach (Magnificat), J.Haydn (St. Nicolas Mass, Salve Regina, Missa in tempore belli), Haendel (Messiah), Pergolesi (Magnificat) and Rossini (Solemn Little Mass).
Les petits chanteurs de Saint-Charles have recorded nine compact discs. You can listen to several mp3 selections under the discography heading.
Our singers have one or two rehearsals a week. Every month they sing Sunday morning mass in Versailles. They give several concerts a year, mostly in December with traditional a capella Christmas songs and then again at the end of the school year. At the end of the August holidays about 50 young singers spend a fortnight together in France or abroad for a concert tour. It represents the culmination of a year’s work. During the tour, daily masses are sung and about five concerts are given of the program worked up in rehearsals. This gives the children an opportunity to learn community life and to discover many foreign countries : Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Poland and elsewhere.
